Low-Income Housing
in Pleasanton, Ks
Our Housing Authority is committed to improving the lives of those in need by offering income-based housing in the small community of Pleasanton Kansas for low-income families and those who are Elderly or Handicapped.
In the late 1960’s a local group felt there was a need for additional housing for the Elderly and Low-Income Families in the small community of Pleasanton Kansas. This group included Ken Prothe, (the then mayor), Dan Smith, Waldo Cox, Bob Laws, and Newt Johnson. After four years of paperwork, The Housing Authority of the City of Pleasanton, Ks was started on a grant from HUD. Years of hard work later, on November 27th 1974, PHA was open for full availability under the watchful eye of Doris Prothe.
Doris carried out the duties of Executive Director until she stepped down in 1997 and handed over the reins to her daughter Penny Johnson who led the PHA until her retirement in 2020. Jeanette Query is the current Executive Director.
Pleasanton Housing Authority consists of 6 duplexes and 33 single family homes placed in 3 sections of town.
The office and a Community Room are located at 902 Palm St.
